Internet Terms and Conditions

Guidelines for students to follow

CHASE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

 

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1.) The purpose of district-provided Internet access is to facilitate communications in support of research and education.  To remain eligible as a user, an individual must be in support of and consistent with the educational objectives of the Chase County USD 284.  All board policies and school regulations apply to the use of the network to support the educational goals of this institution.

2.) Students utilizing District-provided Internet access must first have the permission of and must be supervised by the professional staff of Chase County USD 284.  Students utilizing school-provided Internet access are responsible for good behavior on-line just as they are in a classroom or other area of the school.  The same rules apply for behavior and communications.

3.)  personal use of the Internet (including e-mail) by students must be related to an educational goal and will be supervised in the same manner as school use of the Internet.  Personal information about yourself or anyone else should not be revealed without the teacher permission.

4.) Users should not expect that files stored on school-based computers will always be private.  Electronic messages and files stored will be treated like school property.  Administrators and faculty may review files and messages to maintain system integrity and insure that users are acting responsible.

5.) Vandalism will result in cancellation of privileges. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy any hardware, software, or data belonging to the school or another user.  This includes the uploading or creation of computer viruses. 

6.) Chase County USD 284 makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied for the Internet service.  Chase County USD 284 will not be responsible for damages suffered by irresponsible users, nor will they be responsible for any financial charges incurred by an account user or someone else using the account.  Use of any information obtained via Internet is at your own risk.  Chase county USD 284 specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through the Internet.

7.) Most computers in the school system are or will be networked.  The network is provided to aid in academic endeavors.  Access to the local network is given to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner.  Inappropriate use of the local and area wide networks (such as using another person’s password, trespassing in another person’s folder, or installing or modifying software) will result in a suspension of or cancellation of network privileges.  The system administrators and classroom teachers will deem what is inappropriate use.

8.) The following uses of school-provided Internet access are not permitted: 

a.) to violate any local, state, or federal statute

b.) to vandalize, damage, or disable the property of another individual or organization

c.) to violate copyright, or otherwise use the intellectual property of another individual or organization without permission: plagiarism in any form will not be related

d.) to access, upload, download, or distribute inappropriate materials

e.) to send and receive personal e-mail

f.) downloading anything without teacher permission

g.) participating in real time chat rooms

 

9.) Staff members will blend thoughtful use of the Internet throughout their curriculum and will provide guidance and instruction to students in its use.  Internet access will be used exclusively as an educational tool.  Staff will be charged for paper if printing is necessary for personal use.

10.) Staff members must retain security of personal passwords must ensure that all students personally log onto the network.

11.) Patrons use school-provided Internet access if the following ters are accepted.  Time spent on the Internet for any patron’s personal use must be approved in writing in advance from the building principal.  A faculty member must be present and all conditions stated above apply to patron use.  Patrons will be charged for paper if printing occurs.

 

Any violation of district Acceptable Use Policy by students, staff or patrons may result in loss of District-provided access to the Internet.  Additional disciplinary action may be determined at the building level in keeping with existing procedures and practices regarding appropriate and responsible behavior.  When and where applicable, law enforcement may be involved.
