The Superintendent’s Corner
Chase County Unified School District #284
July 20, 2008
Greetings to all from USD 284! The summer of 2008 seems to be sliding by way too quickly and the new school year will be upon us before you know it. There never seems to be time enough to get everything done but it sure is fun to try isn’t it? As we get closer to the start of school year 2008-09, there are several reminders that I would like to share with all of you.
Enrollment for the new school year will be held at Chase County High School on Wednesday, August the 6th (7:00 am to 7:00 pm) and again on Thursday, the 7th of August from 8:00 am to noon. The offices at all three buildings will reopen on Monday, August the 4th and you are encouraged to contact the office of your choosing as needed.
The District Facilities Advisory Team (DFAT) continues to review district facilities in preparation for an eventual facilities improvement recommendation to the Board of Education. The next meeting of DFAT is scheduled for August 4th at 7:00 pm in the BOE Meeting Room. Student, staff, parent and patron facilities concerns, ideas and suggestions are always welcome and appreciated.
Practice for the 2008 volleyball season at Chase County High School begins on August the 18th. That is the good news. The bad news is that at this time we have no coaches, head or assistant, for that team. These coaching positions have been posted and advertised in every possible recruiting venue but so far we have nobody who is qualified and willing to provide these supplemental duties. We need your help on this one if we are to have a volleyball team at the high school this year. If you are interested in learning more about either of these positions or know someone who is, you are encouraged to contact the district office. Obviously, time is of an essence on this one.
The Board has called a special Budget Review Meeting on Monday, August 18th at 7:00 pm in the BOE Meeting Room. The agenda for that meeting will include final BOE consideration of the FY09 Budget, which will be published in the Leader-News at least ten days prior. Patron review of and input on next year’s budget is one of the primary goals of this meeting.
We hope that your summer continues to be a good one. We look forward to the new school year and providing all of our students with an excellent educational opportunity. Have a good one. Greg M.
