The Superintendent’s Corner
Chase County Unified School District #284
August 28, 2008
The new school year is off to a fine start. Our enrollment is down just a bit but the students we do have are among the best in the state. They are taught by an excellent faculty and staff. The Board of Education has approved a budget for this school year that is tight but adequate. The weather has even cooperated in this August of weather to remember.
There are several transportation-related matters that I’d like to
share and discuss with you. As the summer ends
and our students return to school, it is critical to remember that
school buses are once again roaming the roads and streets of
In an attempt to keep our transportation costs as low as is possible, we will be sending a very limited number of district vehicles to our away activities this year. In most cases, there will only be one bus, a truck to haul varsity football equipment and one administrator / on-site emergency vehicle assigned to our away games. Due to excellent student participation numbers this year, one bus is not enough to hold all high school varsity football players, managers, coaches, equipment, cheerleaders and sponsors. For that reason, a second “spectator” bus is being scheduled for all of our away CCHS varsity football games this year. A spectator bus will not be provided for JV-football or volleyball games. The cheerleaders and sponsors will ride the spectator bus as well as any other spectator (student, parent or patron) who wants to pay for and ride the spectator bus. The spectator cost for this service will be $3.00 per rider per game. If you want to ride the spectator bus, you must sign up and pay in advance at the CCHS office before 12:00 noon on game day. Payment will not be accepted after noon and/or when the bus departs and refunds will not be made if a pre-paid rider chooses not to ride.
We invite and encourage each of you to support our schools and its
student-participants. Your presence at our
extra-curricular events DOES make a big difference to the
youngsters who represent our school and the communities of
