Trying to reach all ages for the first home football game of the season on Sept. 9, Student Council hosted a Hero Night prior to the football game against Colony Crest and then there was a Spirit Clinic performance during halftime.

Seniors were asked to nominate their hero by explaining how this person had influenced their life and then 12 nominees were selected to be honored at the first Hero Night ceremony.

Senior Jady Tacy chose her dad as her hero because she thought honoring someone makes them feel like more of a hero, and she wanted to help people see the good in someone.

“My dad has shown me what it is like to have an actual father figure in my life,” Tacy said.

“We did Hero Night because we thought it would be a great way to honor the people who have made a major impact in our lives. I think it was very special and that night was very valuable to all of us,” senior Alexis DeLong said.

The Spirit Clinic allowed the cheerleaders and dancers to teach elementary kids two cheers and a dance to perform at the first home football game for the halftime show.

“The most challenging thing was second guessing myself, I kept saying I wasn’t good enough to teach the littles, but in the end it was fine,” sophomore dancer Daysha Schickel said.

This year Spirit Clinic, sponsored by the Spirit Squad, featured 40 elementary students. The dance was to the song, “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus.

“My favorite thing was watching them be able to do the dance, like some of them were really good at doing toe touches which was really incredible,” freshman dancer Valeria Soria said.

Soria said that it was really fun watching them learn the dance and being with their friends dancing together. It was always entertaining watching them work together, but there were also a lot of things that were difficult.

“My least favorite thing about teaching the kids was when they didn’t listen. It’s very difficult to teach when they are running around not paying attention,” sophomore cheerleader Emma Clements said.
