“And the winners of the 2022 Homecoming King and Queen are…”

The speakers boomed as senior candidates Mayah Dorsey, Mitch Budke, Emily Miser, Cal Kohlmeier, Grace O’Brien and Dominic Cauthers waited to see who would be crowned Homecoming royalty on Sept. 30, prior to the game against Shawnee-Marantha.

The Little Cupids, first graders Liam Lauer and Ellis Hannigan, were introduced and walked out by junior Kinzie Rogers, who was the Student Council Homecoming Committee chairman.

After all the introductions were made, the big announcement came – King Mitch Budke and Queen Grace O’Brien.

The Little Cupids carried out the tiara and flowers to the Queen and a candy bar with a gift card and a football signed by the football team to the King.

O’Brien remembered the day as being very busy, stressful, but fun, and she was excited when she found out she was chosen through the school-wide vote.

“I was very shocked when I won because I didn’t think it would be me,” O’Brien said. “Homecoming was stressful because of how many things I had going on with dance and StuCo.”

Budke also thought  the day was fun and pretty exciting, but had more important things on his mind.

“I was excited, but I was more ready to get on with the football game,” said Budke, who is quarterback and captain of the team.

Chase County grabbed a decisive victory against Shawne -Maranatha, 72-8, ending the game at halftime. After the game, Parents and Friends Booster Club hosted a bonfire in the football field’s parking lot for the high school students.
