Prepping for college can be a stressful process, it can also be challenging knowing what direction students should take. The students at Chase County are fortunate to have a variety of college courses to take while still in high school.

“I think taking college classes in high school is beneficial for a few reasons,” senior Cal Kohlmeier said. “They are cheaper to take in high school, but they also get you a head start on college. These courses also give you a taste of what to expect in out of college classes.”

Many students feel as though these classes are helping them choose the major they want to study in college.

“I want to be a psychologist,” junior Micayla Simpson said. “This year I took psychology and public speaking. I think these courses are good, because I am going to have some knowledge about these subjects before I go to college.”

Senior Cooper Schroer plans to attend Emporia State University to obtain a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. He is grateful to have the opportunity to get some college credits out of the way.

“I am hoping taking these classes in high school will allow me to really focus on business oriented classes while at college,” Schroer said. “Getting my general education classes out of the way will put me one step ahead.”

Some students attend Flint Hills Technical College during part of their school day. These students learn many skills that will help them in their future.

“I do welding at the Tech College,” junior Maesea Dold said. “We practice what we will perform in our specific industry. I love the people and my instructors at the college, they make the experience much better.”

Even though this process of getting ready for college can be difficult, students find ways in which they can get a head start.

“I think it is good for me to take these classes right now rather than waiting until I get to college. I will be thankful that I will be able to get the full college experience too,” junior Kinzie Rogers said.
