Today, the school district was notified by the Chase County Health Department that an individual at Chase County Elementary School is positive for COVID-19. As a result, we have started preparing for a modified quarantine. We are also in contact with the Chase County Health Department and will take the steps necessary to protect the health of our students and staff. In the case of a positive test, the individual will not be allowed to return to school until approved by the Health Department and district personnel. All close contacts and their families have been notified, and those affected were sent home. The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Individuals who need medical care should call their medical provider to report their illness prior to seeking care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital. Parents of students exhibiting flu-like symptoms or staff exhibiting flu-like symptoms are asked to contact a school nurse, local health authorities, or the Chase County Department of Health. We are closely monitoring this situation and will move forward as needed. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Pena or Mrs. Schlup at 620-273-6676 or Glenna Grinstead at 620-273-6303.
