The Chase County Health Department will be at CCJSHS on October 12, 2021 from approximately 2:30 - 3:30  to administer flu shots to anyone who would like their child to receive one. Paperwork will be sent home in the following days and will need to be returned by Monday October 11 if you would like your student to participate.  Please contact the school health nurse with any questions! COVID Informational Fact #10 The vaccination is not stopping you from getting COVID. It will help reduce the likelihood of hospitalization and the severity of the symptoms. There are breakthrough cases. People who are vaccinated can get and pass on COVID. Children age 12+ are able to get the vaccine if the parent chooses. The companies are currently working to gain approval for students ages 5-11. The district does not require the vaccine for its employees or its students. This is a personal choice for each family.

COVID Informational Fact #9 Quarantines are for 10 days from last exposure/contact with the positive person. The last day of exposure is day zero; the next day is day one. Isolation is for 10 days. The day of the onset of symptoms or positive test (whichever is first) is day zero; the next day is day one. The school, Amber Schlup, the administration - none of us control quarantines or isolation periods.

COVID Informational Fact #8 How can you avoid being quarantined due to an exposure at school? Do one or all of the following: - Don't be a close contact. Social distance. - Be vaccinated. - Have proof of a positive Covid test within the last 6 months. An antigen test will not work. - Wear a mask. If both people are correctly wearing masks and are 3 feet or further apart, you will not have to quarantine if the other person tests positive, but ONLY if the contact was at school. This does not work for out of school contact.

COVID Informational Fact #7 Close contacts are identified, and the district is required to turn that information over to the health department. At this time, vaccinated close contacts do not have to be quarantined according the Chase County Health Department and KDHE, but vaccinated close contacts should wear masks while at school/in public. The school nurse, Amber Schlup, will check to see if any close contacts are vaccinated and will ask to see the immunization card. Unvaccinated close contacts will be required to quarantine. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated close contacts will need to monitor themselves for symptoms and be tested if symptomatic.

HS JV FB here vs. Flinthills on Monday, Oct. 4: The JV game vs. Flinthills has been cancelled. There will not be a game on Monday, Oct. 4.

COVID Informational Fact #6 If a student or staff member tests positive, we still have to contact trace back 48 hours from the time the symptoms started or from the positive test (whichever is first). We contact trace to help the health department and because we have access to the information needed to quickly identify those individuals.

COVID Informational Fact #5 If students should begin to feel ill while at school, they are to notify their teacher and be referred to the office/nurse’s office for assistance. Parents will be notified and asked to retrieve that student from the building. The district is required to monitor symptoms of all staff and students, on a local level, for the state.

COVID Informational Fact #4 The key to keeping the virus out of our building is to STAY HOME if you have ANY signs of illness! Most of the recent positive cases we have had in our community and surrounding areas have been presenting as common allergies.

Covid Informational Fact #3 If it is reported to the office, to the nurse, or seen on social media that your student is experiencing symptoms (i.e. fever, vomiting or at least TWO symptoms from the COVID-19 list), he/she is required to follow the return-to-school policy/flow chart. This policy, along with other documents, has been shared on the district’s social media pages, is available from the schools, and is posted on the website and app under COVID 19 Informational Documents.

Covid Informational Fact #2 Please remain extra vigilant with the health and wellness of your students along with yourself. We continue to strongly encourage household members to remain home, if feasible, if anyone in the house is showing signs of illness or is awaiting test results. Call your primary care provider or local health department for guidance.

COVID Informational Fact #1 If students are not feeling well or are reporting ANY kind of illness-related symptoms (cough, sore throat, headache, etc.), they should not attend school. Students, staff, and parents alike need to continue to monitor themselves and each other for signs and symptoms of any kind of illness. Sometimes the younger children have a hard time expressing what they feel. Please refer to the Return-to-School Flow Chart, contact your Primary Care Provider, or contact the school health nurse for guidance.

Thank you to the Kaltenbacher Fund and to the Chase County Recreation Commission for helping us work on the tennis court. Things definitely look different already, but there is still work to be completed. The two new basketball goals to complete the basketball court section are on backorder but will hopefully be here soon.
