Dear Parents, Students, and Staff Members, I know many of you are wondering what the Executive Orders mean for Chase County and what our plan for reopening schools will look like. Executive Orders: 20-58 Delay the Start of School: The state Board of Education did not approve this Executive Order. It is up to the local school districts to determine the date school will start. We are having a Special Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 29 to discuss this and other issues. 20-59 Masks, Temperature Checks, Washing Hands, and Physical Distancing: We are working to learn more about the legalities and requirements of this Executive Order. As you know from the news, there are conflicting reports if local counties can override the order. Reopening Plan: The Reopening Plan will be released by the end of the month. Our plan allows for a number of scenarios based on the amount of community spread. These scenarios range from face-to-face instruction to Chase County’s version of remote learning which will be different from what we did in the spring. Students will be held accountable for learning. Also in the plan is “full-time remote learning” for parents and students who feel uncomfortable returning to the school setting for face-to-face instruction due to medical issues or safety concerns. This full-time remote learning experience will require daily teacher and student check-in, daily attendance requirements, completing class assignments, and parent involvement. We will be sending out a questionnaire about this as our plan is released. A group of staff members have been working to formulate the reopening plan. We know that a student learns best in a face-to-face environment with instruction from a teacher. We are committed to finding a way for this to happen in a safe manner, for all of our students. On Wednesday, July 8, the football team traveled to 5-on-5 football in Waverly. We have since learned that a Waverly player had been exposed to COVID-19 and is quarantining. At this point, our players need to remember to social distance, practice good hygiene and make good decisions. They do not need to be tested. If anything changes, we will be calling parents. After talking to the Chase County Health Official Carol Courier, we will be suspending all summer activities and workouts for July 13-16. Thank you.
